Description

This is a milepost located 300 metres east of White House Burn bridge, dating from the late 19th century and made by Smith Patterson Ltd. of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and painted white, featuring black figures. The milepost has an oval top with faceted twin faces, mounted on a circular fluted shaft that includes a maker's plate. The raised lettering indicates distances to Alnwick (3 miles) and Chatton (11¾ miles). The height of the milepost is 0.45 metre.
