Description

This milepost, located 280 metres east of Eglingham Bridge, dates from the late 19th century and is likely the work of Smith Patterson Ltd. of Blaydon. It is made of cast iron and is painted white with black figures. The milepost features an oval top with faceted twin faces, mounted on a circular fluted shaft. The raised lettering indicates distances to Alnwick (7 miles) and Chatton (7¾ miles). The milepost is partly buried in the bankside.
