Description

This milepost, located 180 metres north of Abbey Cottage, dates from the late 19th century and was made by Smith Patterson Ltd. of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and is painted white with black figures. The milepost features an oval top with two faceted faces and stands on a circular fluted shaft that includes a maker's plate. The raised lettering indicates distances to Alnwick (1 mile) and Chatton (13¾ miles). The height of the milepost is 0.40 metre.
