Description

This is a milepost located 20 metres west of Glebe Cottage, dating from the late 19th century and made by Smith Patterson Ltd. of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and is painted white with black figures. The milepost features an oval top with faceted twin faces, mounted on a circular fluted shaft that includes a maker's plate. The raised lettering indicates distances to Alnwick (8 miles) and Chatton (6¾ miles). The height of the milepost is 0.45 metres.
