Description

The carriage house and groom's cottages, located to the north-east of Swinburne Castle, were built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from roughly-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and feature a Welsh slate roof. The building is single storey and consists of eight irregular bays. The carriage house is almost central and has three elliptical arches with double plank doors.

To the right, there is a two-bay cottage that includes a plank door and a 12-pane sash window set in raised surrounds. The cottage to the left has three bays, featuring a central door, a 12-pane sash window to the right, and an 8-pane sash window to the left, all also in raised surrounds.

In front of the right cottage, there is a later lean-to shelter with a corrugated iron roof supported by two cast-iron columns. The roof is hipped on the right and gabled on the left, with flat coping. There are two small square ridge stacks, one made of stone and the other rebuilt in brick. This building is included for its group value.
