Description
Chollerton Farm Cottages, stable, and carriage house are mid-19th century structures built from snecked rubble with a Welsh slate roof. The site features a row of six two-storey, two-bay cottages, with a lower one-bay carriage house on the left and a two-storey, four-bay stable forming an L-shape to the left.
Each cottage has doors at the rear leading to later lean-to extensions. The front of each cottage features one original 16-pane sash window on the ground floor, two similar sashes on the first floor, and one mid-20th century iron casement window on the ground floor. The gabled roof has flat coping and three large stone, corniced ridge stacks.
The carriage house includes double plank doors set in a segmental arch. The stable has a plank door with an overlight in an alternating-block surround in the third bay, along with a pitching door above. The windows are in similar surrounds; those in the first two bays are partly louvred and partly glazed with small panes. The fourth bay, originally a bothy, features 16-pane sashes.
These cottages are an important example of industrial farm housing.
