Description
The Tithe Barn is a late 18th-century byre and barn located in Great Swinburne, Chollerton. It is constructed of random rubble with dressed stone quoins and surrounds, topped with a stone slate roof in a Gothick style. The building features a two-storey, three-bay facade beneath an open-pedimented gable. On the ground floor, there are remains of an arched opening in the center, flanked by cruciform windows that are now partly blocked. The first floor contains three tall pointed-arched windows, with the right two being blocked, and a large quatrefoil window in the gable.
On the right side of the building, there is a central byre door with an alternating-block surround, along with two pointed-arched recesses above that have brick surrounds. A 19th-century lean-to addition on the left also has a stone slate roof. At the rear, there are stone outside stairs leading to the barn.
