Description

This drinking fountain, located approximately 20 yards northeast of the Post Office, was erected in 1886. It was established by the tenants, employees, and tradesmen of the Matfen and West Water Estates to show their respect and esteem for Sir Edward Blackett. The fountain is made of ashlar and is set on a square base with three steps on the north side. It features a substantial column that is about 7 feet high, with a square base that has a moulded top edge, a tapering square shaft, and a boldly corniced top. A round water bowl projects from the north side, with an inscription above it.
