Description

This is a late 18th-century house, altered in the early 19th century, that has been divided into two dwellings and linked internally. A further extension was added in 1910. The building is constructed of squared, tooled stone with dressings, and has a slate roof. The south front is symmetrical, with two storeys and three bays. A central porch features a plinth, a boarded outer door within a chamfered surround and angle pilasters, a moulded cornice, and ball finials. The altered internal 9-panel door has a 4-pane overlight. The ground floor has plain sash windows, while the first floor has 16-pane sashes. Coped gables are topped by stepped and corniced stacks with conjoined shafts. On the right return, there are plain sash windows on the ground floor, blocked window panels above, and two small attic windows; one of these retains an old 9-pane casement. A slightly set-back north wing, now a separate house, was added around 1903; it has two storeys and three irregular bays, with a late 19th-century three-light mullioned window on the ground floor to the left. Further 2-bay extension of 1910. Other windows in this extended wing are 4-pane sashes. Stepped and corniced stacks are present on the ridge and at the right end of the building. Cambo House Cottage is included on the listing for group value only.
