Description
This is a mid-18th century house, extended in the late 19th century. The front elevation is built of ashlar stone, with rusticated quoins, while the rear is of coursed rubble stone with cut quoins and dressings. The roof is slate, with one brick stack which is rendered.
The south elevation is divided into two sections. The original house is symmetrical, two storeys high, and five bays wide. It features a plinth, a central panelled front door, and 12-pane sash windows set within architraves. Gable ends have copings returned on deep footstones, and stepped-and-corniced end stacks, with the stack on the left side having been rebuilt. A lower, two-storey extension to the right has three renewed sash windows with similar architraves on the ground floor, and two above. It has a coped gable with a stepped-and-corniced end stack. A screen wall, set back to the right, has flat coping.
On the left return, there is a 12-pane sash window set in a raised stone surround on the first floor. The rear elevation includes a central 16-pane stair window with Gothic glazing under a pointed arch, in a raised stone surround with impost blocks. There is also an early 20th century canted bay window to the right.
A large L-shaped wing was added to the rear of the 19th-century extension, and there are outbuildings to the rear of the screen wall. These have been altered and are not considered to be of special interest. This building has group value due to its contribution to the character of the area.
