Description
The Cottage is a house dated 1715, featuring the initials G M on the lintel. It was remodeled and raised in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble with large, roughly-shaped quoins and cut dressings, while the heightening is done in squared stone. It has a Scottish slate roof and consists of two storeys with three irregular bays. The right of centre has a boarded door with an oval glazed panel set in a chamfered block surround, which is sheltered by a 20th-century open porch. The windows are renewed 12-pane sash types, with the lower ones set in enlarged original openings. The left gable has coping that returns on deep footstones and features a large rendered stack.
Inside, there is a firehood bressumer at the east end, likely with a salt box recess in the rear wall. The interior also has old transverse ceiling beams, and the walls are 0.70 meters thick.
