Description
West House Farmhouse and adjacent outbuildings date to the late 18th century, with alterations in the late 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of squared, tooled stone with cut dressings, and has Welsh slate roofs. The south elevation has two storeys and is divided into three sections. The original house occupies the right-hand side, with a three-bay symmetrical design. It features a plinth and rusticated quoins. The central bay has French windows with a 2-pane overlight, while the first floor has 12-pane sashes, all within raised stone surrounds. Coped gables and stepped-and-corniced end stacks are also present. Two similar windows are found on the right return. To the left is a central single bay and a lower three-bay section, originally single-storeyed but raised when converted to domestic use in the 19th century. This section has openings in raised stone surrounds and stepped-and-corniced end stacks. Furthest to the left is a projecting barn range with blocked openings in alternating-block surrounds, and a pent-roofed stable addition. The rear of the original house has a stair window with paired 4-pane sashes and a flat-arched lintel.
