Description

Forest Mount and the attached byre is a house and byre from the early 19th century that incorporates earlier materials. The house is built of roughly-coursed stone with rusticated, tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings, while the byre is made of rubble with tooled-and-margined dressings, all topped with a slate roof. The house has two storeys and two wide bays. The left-of-centre entrance features a part-glazed door with a 4-pane overlight, and there are 16-pane sash windows, with all openings having keyed lintels. To the left, the byre has a hayloft above and consists of one bay, featuring a 4-pane casement window with a part-slatted window above it. The gables are coped with kneelers, and there are stone stacks at the right end and on the ridge. The left side of the building shows a central boarded door with a tooled-and-margined alternating-block surround. A small parallel wing at the rear of the house may have been added later.
