Description
The Hall is a house built in 1834 for Robert Ormston, with extensions added in the late 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone, except for squared stone at the rear, and features slate roofs. The building has an irregular plan and is designed in the Tudor Gothic style.
The entrance front faces east and consists of two storeys with three bays. It has a plinth and a moulded string course at the first floor. The central bay features a part-glazed door set beneath a four-centred moulded arch within a square frame, topped with a hoodmould and a foiled panel above, flanked by narrow sash windows. Above this is a 12-pane sash window. The gabled bays on either side project slightly forward and include bay windows with paired 12-pane sashes, along with single 12-pane sashes above. The gables are adorned with narrow lancets, coped tops, finials, and elaborate kneelers. All windows have hollow-chamfered surrounds, with those on the first floor also featuring hoodmoulds. A moulded eaves cornice is present in the central bay, and there are two stepped and corniced ridge stacks with triple conjoined shafts.
The left side of the building shows similar window arrangements and features a central gabled bay with a projecting gabled wing on the left. The right side has a projecting late 19th-century gabled wing with a two-storey bay window.
Inside, there is a re-used 16th or 17th-century segmental-arched fireplace located in the former kitchen.
