Description

The mill building and attached head race, dating from around 1800, underwent remodeling of the wheelhouse and head race in the early 19th century. Constructed from rubble with tooled and margined dressings on the wheelhouse, it features a slate roof. The east elevation stands three storeys high and consists of three bays. There is a stable door framed in an alternating-block surround between the second and third bays, which contain 16-pane sash windows on the lower floors and smaller windows above, with the left window being half-slatted. The building has coped gables with moulded kneelers and end stacks, with the right stack stepped and the left rebuilt in brick. A lower wing projects from the first bay, featuring a coped gable on deep footstones and a slatted louvre on the ridge. To the far left is the wheelhouse, which has an opening beneath the eaves for the head race; this is wood-lined and supported by a stone abutment that extends south to the boundary wall. To the right of the wheelhouse is the attached miller's house.

The left return of the building shows an external stone stair leading to a boarded door into the wheelhouse. The rear elevation features 16-pane sash windows on the lower floors and part-slatted windows above, with a segmental arch leading to the wheelpit. A wooden waterwheel remains in situ.
