Description

The Old Schoolhouse is a schoolmaster's house, likely the original school, built in 1803, as indicated by a dated slab that has been re-set on the north side. The building was altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rubble that has been rendered, featuring tooled quoins and dressings, and has a slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and consists of two bays.

The entrance is a right-of-centre half-glazed door set within an alternating-block surround, flanked by 16-pane sash windows, although the left window has been renewed. Above, there are late 19th-century 4-pane sash windows, with all windows showcasing tooled lintels and sills. The gables are coped and have moulded kneelers, with stepped and corniced end stacks.

On the left side, there is a blocked door with a renewed 12-pane sash window and a sunk panel above, which is likely where the re-set date slab was originally located. This slab features a scallop shell and a defaced inscription on the right return. The building is included in the register for its historical interest.
