Description
The farmbuilding range located south-west of Greenhead Cottages dates from the 18th century and was altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with cut dressings and features a slate roof. The east elevation is one storey high and consists of five irregular bays. The first bay has a stable door, while the fourth bay contains boarded double doors set under a segmental arch with a raised chamfered keystone. The second, third, and fifth bays have boarded doors. The building has coped gables with moulded kneelers and small corniced stacks at the right end, along with two stacks on the ridge.
The right return of the building shows a blocked door with a stone surround and is connected to the ruins of a gatehouse that was largely demolished in 1964. There is a vertical-panelled door on the east side of the ruined section, which has a chamfered stone surround with a flat-pointed head. The lintel of this door is inscribed with "HH" (Humphrey Hopper) and the year 1751.
It is noted that James Lough, a sculptor who lived from 1798 to 1876, is said to have been born in the room with the doorway marked '1751'. The building is included in the heritage listing partly for its group value and partly for its historical interest.
