Description

HUMSHAUGH HAUGHTON NY 97 SW 2/234 Outbuilding range to north-west of Haughton Castle

GV II

Range of outbuildings, 1816 incorporating some earlier fabric, altered later C19. Rubble with tooled-and-margined dressings; Welsh slate roofs. Range in 4 sections: to left a 2-storey tower, with boarded door flanked by slits and older slit window re-set above; embattled parapet. Attached wall, with stepped coping, in front of yard at lower level (enclosed by wall with attached privy joining right return of tower at rear). Single-storey 3-bay part with boarded doors, small-paned iron-framed casement windows, and paired segment-headed pigeon holes with alighting platforms below embattled parapet. All doorways and windows in chamfered surrounds, the former with flat-pointed heads. Front elevation of garage at far right has been altered.

Rear elevation, with lower ground level, shows 2 segmental-arched cart entrances to basement of 3-bay part, and pre-C19 masonry in substructure of garage.
