Description

HUMSHAUGH HAUGHTON NY 97 SW 2/240 Garden wall and attached outbuildings to west of Wester Hall GV II

Garden wall and attached outbuildings, C18 with later alterations. Coursed rubble with dressings; Welsh slate roof to privy/dovecote, C20 grey tiles on west range.

Wall on east of garden joins north-west corner of Wester Hall (q.v.) and has doorway with lintel,re-set from house, inscribed William Smith 1732. Square privy/dovecote at north-east corner has boarded door on south and low pyramidal roof; east wall shows boarded basement door and stone external stair to boarded door. 4-pane Yorkshire sash on right, and opening to attic dovecote with stone alighting shelf. Tall wall on north of garden has flat coping and 4 square-headed rebated bee-boles with projecting sills. Wall of farmbuilding range on west of garden, with 3 similar recesses (one blocked) and 2 boarded doors, joins gate lodge (q.v.). Rear elevation of range shows 3 segmental- arched cart entrances and 3 boarded doorways in chamfered surrounds.
