Description
This is a milepost located approximately 100 yards south of Bridge Mill, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a triangular shape with a slightly rounded back and a steeply canted top. One face is inscribed with "BEL" for Belford, another face has "BER" for Berwick, and the top is marked with "L" for London, indicating a distance of 6 miles and 328 yards. The milepost was originally situated on the A1 road, which has since changed its route at this location.
