Description
The Smith gravestone, located approximately 6 yards west of the Church of St. Anne, dates from the early 19th century and is made of sandstone. It features a plain large tablet with a shaped top, which is inscribed with the following text:
"The Just shall be in Everlasting Rememberance PSALM IIIV 7 To the Memory of Mary Catherine Smith deceased the 20th of Jan 1799 in whom were join'd virtue of Religion to Prudence & afability of Manners, by which she gaind Universal Esteem and was Superiour of the Religious Community who by the Bounty of SIR CARNABY HAGGERSTON Bart. were received and lodgd at his castle during 12 years after the French Revolution. Of which Community are also here interrd Mary Castell, Helen Chadwick, Elizabeth Jackson, Helen Hool, Elizabeth Blundell, Elizabeth Hagan, Jane Philips, Elizabeth Smith, Monica Hagan. May they Rest in Peace."
