Description
The Lighthouse and Keeper's Cottage, built in 1810 by David Alexander for Trinity House in Newcastle, is located on the Farne Islands. The lighthouse is constructed from painted ashlar and features a lead roof. It stands three storeys tall, round and tapering, with a 12-pane sash window on the ground floor and the Trinity House crest above it. Below the light, there is a balcony with curved iron railings. The light itself has square glazing bars and is topped with a domed lead roof that has a small lead drum. A short connecting section leads to the cottage, which has a flush-panelled door with a bracketed stone hood. The two-bay cottage is made of dressed stone and has 12-pane sashes set in chamfered reveals. It features a pyramidal roof with a tall central stack.
