Description
Armstrong Cottages, built in 1894, is a row of three cottages located in Bamburgh. They were constructed for the workmen brought in by Lord Armstrong to restore Bamburgh Castle. The cottages feature wood boarding painted dark green with white trim and a Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys. They are single storey and consist of 11 bays. The centre bay is canted and has a boarded door on the left side, while the other fronts have windows with small-paned upper sashes and plate-glass lower sashes. Above, there is a cross gable with projecting eaves supported on curved struts at the corners, and bargeboards linked by open-work timber framing. The end bays also have cross gables with similar timber work. There are boarded doors in the 3rd and 9th bays, with similar windows throughout. The roof is hipped and features five small ridge stacks with large patterned terracotta chimney pots. The cottages are included for their social and historical interest.
