Description

A pair of semi-detached houses built in 1913 by Robert Mauchlen for Sir Stephen Runciman Bt. The houses are constructed from random rubble with a finely-dressed front face, with the centre bays pebbledashed on the first floor. They have pantiled roofs. Designed in the Arts and Crafts style, the houses are two storeys with six bays. Each house features a central two-storey porch with a round-headed, vertical-panelled door pierced by two small four-pane windows. Above the door is a sixteen-pane casement, and a hipped roof with projecting eaves. The outer bays are single-storey with long, small-pane casements under catslide roofs. The inner bays have twelve-pane casements on each floor. The roof is gabled, with a corniced ridge and end stacks. The houses are part of a picturesque group alongside neighbouring properties. There are references to Sir Stephen Runciman Bt. and Newcastle, dated 1924.
