Description
Happisburgh Lighthouse and Lighthouse Cottages consist of a lighthouse and two keepers' cottages built in 1791. The lighthouse is made of painted and rendered brick, featuring five storeys with a tapering circular shape. Each storey is separated by a string course and painted alternately red and white. The entrance door is located on the west side, and there are segmental-headed windows on alternate storeys. A gallery is situated on the east side, just below the glazed lantern stage.
The lighthouse is flanked by two square single-storey cottages, each with two bays on each side. These cottages are also made of rendered and colourwashed brick, with roofs covered in either concrete tiles (for No. 1) or slate (for No. 2). Each cottage has pilasters at the corners and center of each side, which separate sash windows that feature glazing bars and keystones. Inside, there is a passageway from each cottage that leads into the tower, opening to the exterior through a square-headed door. Both cottages have double hipped roofs with twin-flued stacks.
