MATFEN Milepost Pier approx 20 yards west of Great Whittington road end

II Milepost pier. Mid C19. Ashlar. End pier to wall. Square with pyramidal cap the sides of which are used as a milepost. Inscribed on the north face, Whittington I¼ miles Hexham 9 miles; and on the east face, Corbridge 6 miles Newcastle 15 miles.
