Description

Old Cottage and adjoining shelter sheds, built in the 18th century, are located 50 meters south-west of West Wharmley Farmhouse. The structure is made of rubble with stone dressings, featuring a coped right gable and a stone slate roof. The cottage has an ashlar stack on the left gable and a brick stack on the right. It is a single-storey building with a segmental cart entrance that has been rebated for doors but is now blocked up with a window inserted. There is also a small inserted window, a door with a narrow chamfer to the head and jambs, and a window with a 16-pane sliding sash. The right return of the cottage has a 6-parted sash window in the attic. The adjoining shelter sheds to the left have dressed stone piers with block capitals, and three of the six openings are walled up with windows inserted in the walls.
