Description
WALLINGTON DEMESNE WALLINGTON NZ 0384 21/207 Portico House and terrace walling (previously 20.lO.69 listed as The Portico) II Cottage with summerhouse and flanking walls. Walls Cl7, much repaired; cottage c.1750 probably by Daniel Garrett. Cottage of sandstone ashlar with slate roof; brick walls in English garden wall bond, on stone plinth. 2 storeys, l wide bay. Ground floor recessed behind Roman Doric screen, distyle in antis. Central 6- panel door with tall overlight, modillion cornice. 4 pilasters rise from screen cornice to 1st floor sill band; central 4-pane sash window flanked by blind panels with sills stepped down. Moulded eaves cornice and pediment. Stepped and corniced brick chimneys project towards rear of each return.
Tall walls with flat stone coping have buttresses flanking cottage;and at either side late C19 sash windows under flat gauged brick arches. Stout buttresses at ends and to rear.
