Description
Hazelwood is a single-storey, three-bay cottage located at 2 North Laurieknowe Place in Dumfries, dating from the earlier to mid-19th century. The building has a near-symmetrical façade featuring a central doorpiece with pilasters and a heraldic crest at the blocking course. To the left of the door, there is a single window, while the right side has a tripartite window arrangement. The cottage includes two canted dormers and a central rectangular dormer.
The exterior is characterized by a painted ashlar plinth, rusticated quoins, a cornice, and square skew ends, although the urn finial on the left is missing. An ornate wrought-iron cantilevered overarch lamp bracket adorns the doorway. A modern timber and glass porch has been added to enclose the original doorway. The return elevations are constructed of coursed rubble.
In the garden, there is a small cast-iron fountain set in an ashlar basin, topped by a small putto carrying an urn, with additional cast-iron basins below. The low garden wall features three octagonal gatepiers and retains its original gates.
