Description

This is a milepost located approximately 700 metres north of Prickly Bridge, likely dating from the late 19th century and made by Smith Paterson of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and is painted white with black figures. The milepost stands 0.40 metres tall and features a faceted twin-faced oval top on a fluted shaft, with a maker's plate positioned below a decorative ring. The raised lettering indicates the distance to Alnwick and Sunderland, stating "ALNWICK / NO SUNDERLAND 7 7 MILES MILES."
