Description
This milepost, located 100 metres south of Newtonbarns, is likely from the late 19th century and was made by Smith Paterson of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and is painted white with black figures and shaft. The milepost stands 0.60 metres tall and features a facetted twin-faced oval top on a fluted shaft, with the maker's name positioned below a decorative ring. The raised legend indicates the distance to Alnwick and Sunderland, stating "ALNWICK 9 MILES SUNDERLAND 5 MILES."
