Description

This milepost, located 150 metres south of the junction with the road to Embleton, is likely from the late 19th century and was made by Smith Paterson of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and is painted white with black figures. The milepost stands 0.40 metres tall and features a faceted twin-faced oval top on a fluted shaft, with a maker's plate positioned below a decorative ring. The raised lettering indicates the distance to Alnwick and Sunderland, which is 8 miles and 6 miles, respectively.
