Description
This guide post, located on the south side of the road junction 300 metres west of Battle Bridge, likely dates from the late 19th century and was produced by the Alnwick Foundry. It is made of cast iron, with a grey-painted shaft and black arms on a white background. The post features a circular shaft with a moulded head and finial. The arms, which have clipped corners, are bolted onto the head of the shaft and indicate distances to various locations: Alnwick 5 miles, Bolton 1¼ miles, Glanton 3½ miles, Powburn 4½ miles, Whittingham 3 miles, and Netherton 9 miles. The overall height of the guide post is 2 metres.
