Description
Forge Cottage, located north-east of Lemmington Hall, is a cottage dated 1745 on the east gable wall, possibly from the 18th century. It is constructed of roughly-tooled squared stone with cut dressings and features a graduated Lakeland slate roof. The north-west elevation has one storey and four bays, with a low plinth and an upper plinth at sill level. The windows are renewed 12-pane sash types set in chamfered surrounds, and there is an eaves band present. The cottage has centre and end banded stacks and crowstepped gables. The north-east gable end features a round-arched window with interlaced glazing, while the south-west gable end has an oculus. There is an interlaced panel door in a small rear wing, which is linked to a privy/coalhouse that also has an interlaced door and coped gables.
