Description
A garden house and attached garden walls, dating circa 1914 and constructed for Sir Stephen Aitchison. The garden house is built of squared stone with cut dressings, while the rear walls are of coursed rubble. The garden house has a cruciform plan and includes a six-panel door on its south-west face, set within an architrave, and a pointed quatrefoil window on the south-east face. The structure features a cornice, a blocking course with angle blocks, and a central concrete dome. Attached rear walls, originally defining a knot garden, have moulded coping with recessed flower holders. A similar wall extends 12 metres from the rear of the garden house to connect with a nearby outbuilding range. Lower side and front walls are topped with flat coping and have ball or dome finials at the angles, with gates—two of which are now missing.
