Description
Forge Cottage and Jasmine Cottage are a house and former smithy, likely dating from the 17th century, substantially remodelled in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble, with some timber-frame elements, and has a concrete tiled roof. A stack is present at the centre and left end. The two-storey, three-window front has ground floor windows set under segmental heads. There are 12-pane sash windows to the left and right of the entrance, and a smaller 6-pane sash window between the entrance and the window to the right of the entrance. The first floor has three evenly spaced 8-light casements. A 17th-century timber-framed porch with a gable, supported by rubble side walls, is located between the two left-hand windows. The porch features contemporary turned balusters, pegged miniature trusses with ties, and raking struts. A ledged, 19th-century door is positioned under a segmental head. A single-storey garage extension, dating from the 19th century, is located to the left, with 20th-century casements and two zinc-plated garage doors. The right-hand gable exhibits raking struts from the collar, queen struts, thick jowls, and two 20th-century 4-light casements visible above a 19th-century lean-to with a tiled roof, a 20th-century glazed door, and a 6-pane vented window. The interior of the left-hand section of the building features square panelling and chamfered beams.
