Description

This signpost, located at a road junction south of Rock Farm, dates from the late 19th century or early 20th century and was made by Smith Paterson & Co. Ltd. of Blaydon. It is constructed from painted cast iron and features a cylindrical shaft with the maker's stamp. The top of the shaft is moulded and has a cone-topped finial. There are three bolt-on arms with clipped corners, each displaying raised legends indicating distances to various locations: Doxford (3 1/4 miles), Chathill Station (5 1/2 miles), South Charlton (3 miles), Rennington (1 mile), Little Mill (3 miles), Alnwick (5 1/2 miles), Christon Bank Station (2 1/2 miles), Embleton (4 miles), Craster (4 3/4 miles), and Howick (5 1/2 miles).
