Description

Nos. 21 and 23 Rock Village are a pair of estate houses built in the mid-19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed from roughly-tooled stone, featuring tooled-and-margined stonework at the first-floor level and dressed stone details. The houses have a Welsh slate roof and are one and a half storeys tall, with four bays.

The main entrance consists of half-glazed doors located between the end bays. There is an inserted two-light mullioned window with 12-pane sashes between the central bays. The end bays have similar but older windows, while the central bays feature smaller windows with 12-pane Yorkshire sashes. All ground-floor openings are adorned with hoodmoulds.

The eaves cornice is chamfered and interrupted by gabled half dormers. The right bays contain dormers with 4-pane Yorkshire sashes beneath coped gables on moulded kneelers, while the left bays have enlarged dormers with triple 4-pane casements. All openings are framed in chamfered surrounds. The end gables are coped and rest on moulded kneelers.

There is a stepped and corniced stack at the left end and an axial stack on the ridge, along with a rendered stepped-and-banded stack at the right end. Set back slightly at the left end is a single-storey bay with a triple 6-pane casement and a coped end gable, while a similar bay at the right end features a 4-pane casement and a pent roof.
