Description
No. 4 on the west side of Nunthorpe Village is a pair of cottages from the late 18th century that have been converted into a single cottage. The building is constructed of brick in English garden wall bond, with dressed sandstone on the left return and quoins at the left end. It features a clay pantile roof with a stone ridge, gable copings, shaped kneelers, and a rebuilt ridge stack. The structure is two storeys high and has three windows.
There are paired off-centre doorways beneath a common slated hood supported by curved wooden braces. The right doorway has a four-panel door, while the left features a late 20th-century glazed door set in a segment-headed opening. The windows are renewed sash types, with gauged brick flat arches on the ground floor and soldier arches on the first floor. Between the floors of the left cottage, there are four S-shaped and one X-shaped iron tie plates. The left return has a late 20th-century inserted casement window that does not match the original style. Rear extensions of the building are not considered to be of special interest.
