Description

Number 1 (Foxglove Cottage) and Number 2 are a house and cottage dating from the late 18th century, with earlier origins and later alterations and extensions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features variegated brick in English garden wall bond at the center, squared sandstone to the right, and coursed sandstone rubble to the left, with quoins. The rear is also made of coursed sandstone rubble. The roof is covered with pantiles and has brick stacks.

The structure is two stories high and has a two-window center front, with a lower two-story, single-window service wing to the left and a single-window cottage of two low stories to the right. The house has a contemporary door with an overlight and 4-pane sash windows. The service wing features a modern half-glazed door to the right and 12-pane horizontal-sliding sash windows on both floors. All openings have painted wedge lintels. The cottage has a door with six recessed panels set in a modern trellis porch, along with a 16-pane sash window to the right and a 12-pane horizontal-sliding sash window on the first floor. All windows have painted stone sills and painted herringbone-tooled lintels. The roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers, with stacks at both ends and the center left and right. At the rear, there is an outshut with a catslide roof added to the house and a 20th-century extension to the cottage.
