Description

These are a pair of gate piers dating from the 19th century, made of sandstone ashlar and vermiculated sandstone. Each pier stands on a plinth and is approximately 3 metres high. The piers feature vermiculated long and short quoins that create alternating bands of rustication on each face. At the impost level, there is a band of raised Greek key moulding beneath a frieze that is carved with swags. The piers are topped with cornices that have flat caps. They mark the entrance to the former park of Brompton Hall.
