Description

The Lodge is a late 19th-century lodge, dated 1896, situated at the entrance to Poole Hospital, originally Grey Towers House. A later 20th-century extension to the left is not of particular architectural interest. The lodge is constructed of dressed sandstone with a plain clay tile roof.

The building comprises a single storey and three bays, with a one-bay extension to the right. The two-bay basket-arcaded porch on the right has a renewed door and sidelights recessed within the left arch, and a window within the right arch. Above the left arch, a carved foliate tablet displays the raised lettering "A.J.D. 1896", referring to Arthur J. Dorman. The building features a shaped parapet with squat, swept-pyramidal finials. The windows are 2-light, chamfered mullioned with renewed glazing. A gable over the original left-hand bay includes a vent slit and matching finials. The roof has a shallow pitch with exposed rafter ends. The right return features a canted bay window. The rear elevation has two corniced lateral stacks.
