Description

Park Lodge, located at the south-east entrance to Ward Jackson Park, is a park-keeper's lodge built in 1883 by Henry Suggitt, the Park Manager. The building is constructed of brick with sandstone ashlar dressings and features rusticated quoins at the corners. It has a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings, kneelers, and metal finials, along with two brick lateral stacks at the rear.

The lodge is two storeys high and has an off-centre projecting wing that includes a three-bay arcaded porch. This porch has round arches supported by Tuscan columns and square, rusticated angle piers. Inside the porch, there is another brick porch with two six-panelled doors.

On the first floor, there is a cross window with a hoodmould and carved mask stops, situated below a circular cross window in the gable. To the left of the wing, there is a pointed-arched cross window. Cross windows are also present on the first floor of the right return of the wing, on both floors of the north gable, and on the first floor of the south gable above a square bay window. The building features a chamfered plinth and a moulded string course between the floors. A late 20th-century rear extension is noted but is not of interest.
