Description

Meadowcroft and Meadowside are a large villa, now divided into two dwellings. They were built in 1895, as indicated by a plaque in the left gable end. The building is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and a clay tiled roof, designed in a quasi Tudor style.

The main garden front is two storeys plus an attic, with five bays and a single-story entrance link to a two-story extension on the right. The first and fifth bays have cross-gables; the second bay is an embattled tower with a half-octagonal front featuring a recessed entrance beneath a four-centred arch. The third bay has a large staircase window, and the fourth bay is narrow and set back. Most windows are stone mullioned and transomed, with some featuring stained glass, although the extension has timber first-floor sash windows and a canted bay below. A large round bow window with a parapet is on the ground floor of the first bay, and an embattled oriel sits on the first floor of the fifth bay. The entrance link, beneath a segmental arch, has side lights and five serpentine-headed small windows above. An entablature with a foliage-carved frieze runs along the second-floor level of the tower. There is an octagonal tower with an embattled parapet and a pyramidal roof at the north-west corner of the building.
