Description

This milestone, located approximately 100 metres north-east of New Moor Lodge, is likely from the late 18th century and features a 19th-century Ordnance Survey bench mark. It is made of sandstone and has an irregular tapered shape, measuring about one metre in length. One of its two smooth faces is inscribed with 'Durham/15/miles', and the bench mark is located below the inscription. At the time of the survey, it was lying in grass.
