Description
The Evenwood War Memorial is located in Evenwood Cemetery, just inside the gates. It is approximately 5 meters tall and made of Dunhouse freestone, designed in the shape of a square obelisk. A wreath is carved in low relief on the front face of the obelisk. The obelisk sits atop a square pedestal with a three-stepped base. The base is surrounded by a square border and a low kerb.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the pedestal reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN THANKFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF EVENWOOD, RAMSHAW AND LANDS WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918." The names of those commemorated are inscribed on the other faces of the pedestal and on the riser of the top step of the base.
