Description
The Eshe Laude War Memorial is located in the grassy court in front of the Church of St Michael, which is also a Grade II-listed building, alongside the Stables, Loft, and Carriage shed, all of which are Grade II-listed. The memorial features a tall wooden Calvary with a hood, rising from a stone cairn that symbolizes a rocky hill. The figure of Christ crucified is positioned at the front, facing the road leading to Eshe village. The cairn is set upon a stone step.
A granite plaque is inset into the front of the cairn, displaying the main dedicatory inscription: "CRUCIFIED JESUS/ HAVE MERCY ON THE SOULS/ OF (20 NAMES)/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919." Below this, on the front face of the stepped base, a smaller plaque reads "1939 – 1945/ (2 NAMES)."
