Description

This milestone, located approximately 50 metres north of the junction with Eliza Lane, dates from the late 18th century and was originally part of the West Auckland to Corbridge turnpike. It is made of painted ashlar and has a quadrant-section shape, standing about half a metre high. The north face features the incised letters "WA 15" and the south face displays "C 15," both in Roman capitals and painted black. The stone itself is painted white, and there is an Ordnance Survey bench mark on the north face.
