Description
This milestone, located about 200 metres east of Rowley Cottage, dates from the late 18th century and was part of the Corbridge to West Auckland turnpike. It has a triangular section and stands approximately half a metre high. The west face features Roman capitals "WA," while the east face displays the letter "C." The milestone also includes the figures "17" and "13." The top of the stone is flattened and has a square indentation, which may have been intended for an Ordnance Survey benchmark.
