Description
This milestone, located about 100 metres south of the junction with the track to Park Wall Farm, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of white-painted stone, stands about one metre high, and has a triangular shape. The top features a horizontal square indent and an incised Ordnance Survey bench mark. The north face has the Roman letters WA and the number 9 incised, while the south face displays the letter C and the number 21, both painted black. The south face is partly obscured by earth. The distances indicated on the milestone are to West Auckland and Corbridge.
